The Unconsumption Wiki

Page history last edited by lrsachs 3 days, 5 hours ago

Getting rid of something? Want to UNconsume instead of just Consume?  You've come to the right place.

The Unconsumption Wiki aims to be your one-stop-shop for information about the best, most practical, most responsible, maybe even the most satisfying way to get rid of stuff you don't want anymore.

Whether you're trying to figure out how to dispose of an old, nonfunctioning cell phone, or you wish you could find a new home for that perfectly good T-shirt or book you just don't want anymore, this wiki aims to be the place you come for the answer.

That means it's also the place where you might just provide the answer. We've rounded up a bunch of resources here, but we are sure there are even more — stuff you know about that we don't. So join in and share what you know! Others will appreciate, and we will all benefit from, your participation, so: request access now!

[This wiki is a project of the volunteers at Unconsumption.tumblr.com, your daily source of inspiration for mindful consumption and creative reuse.]

THE BIG PICTURE - Don't get overwhelmed!  Start with The Big Picture: where can you just give it away or barter.

Giving Away, Getting and Learning

Swapping, peer-to-peer rental, sharing, bartering

ELECTRONICS - Starts here with cell phones and computers, but soon-to-be expanding into anything electrified

Cell Phones and Computers (manufacturer recycling primarily)

THE HOME - Subtracting electronics (see above) what else can you unconsume in your house?

Books | Carpeting | Recreational equipment

CLOTHES - Next to electronics and food, the item we consumers spend most of our disposable income on.  Don't dispose of the material.  Unconsume it!

Denim | T-shirts | Eyeglasses | Children's

TRANSPORTATION - Bikes and cars...and anything you need to move around.

Bikes | Used cars

I have joined my town's recycle committee. I use freecycle and I have a local facebook reuse, recycle page---reaching out to others to encourage sustainable living, reusing, recycling, crafts from rubbish, encouraging it all in a small way to work toward a better earth! Please LIKE my facebook page---- http://www.facebook.com/pages/Reuse-Recycle-in-Wallingford-CT/242892015766266
